Litigation Associate — Denver
Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell (WTO) is Denver’s largest civil litigation boutique, but the firm enjoys national reach and recognition. WTO represents sophisticated clients nationwide in high-stakes civil trials, appeals, and arbitrations. WTO seeks a mid/senior level litigation attorney (6+ years) to join our Denver-based firm. This partnership-track position will focus on representing WTO’s commercial clients. Candidates will have the opportunity to participate on teams supporting clients nationwide and should have a desire to manage cases, a passion for client service and litigation, and a demonstrated record of success and excellence. Applicants should have defense experience within civil litigation and a desire to be a trial advocate. In addition, candidates will ideally have experience in at least one of the following areas: Complex Commercial Litigation, Class Actions, Antitrust, Medical Malpractice/Mass Torts
Responsibilities
- Handle the day-to-day responsibilities of cases, including legal research, motion and brief writing, written and oral discovery, oral arguments, client communication, communication with opposing counsel, trial preparation, etc.
- Collaborate with partners and clients on litigation and trial strategies, including how best to approach complex issues or difficult problems, and then execute on that strategy.
- Supervise associates and staff attorneys in drafting briefs and executing litigation strategies.
- Take and defend fact and expert depositions, including preparing witnesses for depositions.
- Source and develop expert witnesses.
- Draft and deliver polished, file-ready motions and briefs of significance, and argue them to the court, as necessary.
- Participate on trial teams and handle pretrial and trial responsibilities, including witnesses and oral arguments.
Job Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree with 6+ years of associate-level experience in a law firm setting.
- Admitted, or has a path to admission, to practice law in the State of Colorado.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong ability to interact effectively with a broad range of staff and stakeholders.
- Case management abilities and familiarity with the life cycle of civil litigation.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; work under pressure and complete job assignments accurately and timely; and respond appropriately to shifting demands.
- Employ initiative and sound judgment to produce outstanding results.
- Work independently, but be able to escalate and communicate complex issues promptly and effectively.
There are no specific billable-hour requirements. Hours worked are dictated by the firm’s volume of work, our ethical obligations to our clients, and our personal and collective determination to produce the finest legal work in the country.
