Rogers Joseph O’Donnell, P.C.
(Hybrid - Washington, D.C.)
One Application for All Roles
Associate
Location: Washington, D.C.
Remote Work: Hybrid
The Opportunity:
Rogers Joseph O’Donnell, P.C., is seeking a fellow with at least 3 years of litigation experience to work in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office to primarily support its Government Contracts Practice Group. For several years the firm has been recognized by Chambers USA as being one of the top government contracts law firms in the nation. Leading legal ranking guides such as Chambers, The Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal have singled out many of our lawyers as among the nation’s best government contracts practitioners. RJO government contracts attorneys handle all aspects of government contracting at the federal, state and local levels throughout the country.
RJO was founded in 1981 by a group of “big firm” attorneys who believed — and continue to believe — that smaller is smarter. Free from the bureaucratic and economic burdens of a supersize law firm, we can listen to our clients more attentively, think more creatively, and act more nimbly. We represent Fortune 500 companies, private corporations and partnerships, start-ups, non-profits, government entities, family trusts, and individuals throughout California and across the United States.
Prior experience in Government Contracts is preferred but not required. We are looking for candidates with solid academic credentials, excellent writing skills, strong analytical abilities with a consistent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Candidates must be admitted to practice in the District of Columbia should be self-starters with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
RJO prides itself on its inclusivity, its concrete commitment to diversity, and the loyalty of its clients, attorneys, and staff. The firm is a member of the 2024-25 midsize cohort of Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule Certification process. The Mansfield Rule for Midsize Firms program focuses on measurable goals, as well as collaboration with other participating law firms who share RJO’s values for promoting a more inclusive legal industry.
Excellent lawyering, smart business-focused advice, and our collaborative team of staff and attorneys are what have kept the firm successful and healthy, as well as a true pleasure to work for. Associates are given client-facing opportunities early and often. This is the type of firm where becoming a shareholder is a realistic goal for those who show a commitment and dedication to their own professional development.
The firm has always taken a flexible approach on remote work for attorneys but also values the collegiality that is built by face-to-face interactions, as such, attorneys are generally expected to be present at least three days a week in the office.
Associates are expected to work a minimum of 1800 billable hours per year and 200 non-billable hours to remain in good standing. Approved pro-bono work up to 100 hours and approved diversity, equity and inclusion work up to 25 hours will count toward 1800 billable hours target. The firm would consider a reduced billable hour requirement for highly qualified Fellows. Attorneys who work above the minimum billable hour requirement are eligible to receive hours-based and merit-based bonuses each year based on a variety of factors, such as achieving outstanding results for a client, contributions to the firm, and business development efforts.
