In partnership with the OnRamp 200 Program, Morrison & Foerster hopes to recruit two OnRamp Fellows for the 2024-2025 cohort. Fellows will receive formal and informal mentoring throughout their one-year fellowship.

 

Fellowship Opportunity:

Office: Washington, DC (open to other MoFo locations)

Position: Employment and Labor Associate Attorney

Candidates will have familiarity with and knowledge of the following:

  • OFCCP compliance and audit defense.
  • Conducting pay equity studies and defending pay equity litigation and government enforcement actions.
  • Litigating employment claims, with a preference for litigating discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims, employee mobility/trade secret, and executive disputes.
  • Drafting standard employment agreements, offer letters, executive employment agreements, separation agreements, non-competes, non-solicits, nondisclosure, IP assignment.
  • Advising on various day-to-day employment law compliance and HR issues, including in the context of executive and Board of Director issues.
  • Handling workplace investigations of employment complaints, including harassment, whistleblower, and discrimination complaints.
  • Handling the employment dimensions of various corporate transactions.

Professional skills highly desired include:

  • Outstanding research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound legal and business knowledge and judgment in working on a broad spectrum of cases and counseling clients with respect to ongoing matters.
  • Strong case management skills, including ability and initiative to lead and own matters, keeping ahead of deadlines and executing on next steps.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to attentively listen, actively engage and quickly respond, and concisely and effectively communicate complex matters.
  • A strong work ethic and action-oriented interest in taking on increased levels of responsibility for client matters to add to the success of the team.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Team-oriented attitude.
  • Strong academic credentials are highly valued.
  • Bar Admission in Washington, D.C. is preferred but not required for applying to the position.

Fellowship candidate submissions should include a resume, cover letter, writing sample, copies of all academic transcripts (unofficial copies accepted), and a copy of the OnRamp Program’s proficiency-based testing results.

Position: IP Litigation Associate Attorney

Candidates will have familiarity with and knowledge of the following:

  • Experience with intellectual property litigation matters, including patent and/or trade secret litigation.
  • Strong experience in managing discovery and writing briefs.
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is preferred. We may consider other related technical degrees.

Professional skills highly desired include:

  • Exercising sound legal and business knowledge in working on a broad spectrum of cases and counseling clients with respect to ongoing matters.
  • Excellent communication skills are key: ability to attentively listen, actively engage, and concisely and effectively communicate complex matters in oral and written form.
  • A strong work ethic, excellent leadership skills, and action-oriented interest in taking on increased levels of responsibility for client matters will add to your success on our team.

Practice Group Overview:

As a patent litigation powerhouse, Morrison & Foerster represents clients in their highest-profile and most complex patent disputes in the tech, life sciences, and the consumer products industries. Although we are capable of resolving matters before trial, the prowess of our courtroom litigators is second to none. We stand out for our superb knowledge of patent law, experience with judges in high-volume patent venues, and facility with explaining cutting-edge technologies to juries. The practice group is led by Bita Rahebi, Mark Whitaker, Brian Nash, and Tim Saulsbury.

Over the last five years alone, we have litigated more than 300 patent disputes in the most active district courts in the nation, including the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas, the District of Delaware, and the Northern and Central Districts of California. We regularly appear before agencies and tribunals such as the International Trade Commission (ITC) and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). And when IP cases make their way to the Federal Circuit or Supreme Court, our experienced bench of appellate lawyers can help clients successfully navigate the appellate process. We also have significant experience litigating in global forums, including in Japan and Germany.
