Background & Certifications

Kate Neville has more than 12 years of experience helping high-performing professionals strengthen their leadership skills, expand their capacity, and broaden their influence as they move into progressively senior management roles and executive positions. She regularly facilitates candid conversations and programs, and her clients include prominent law firms, global financial institutions, accounting and consulting firms, industry associations, and major non-profit organizations.

She has substantial expertise working with leaders to move effectively from thought to constructive action, incorporate new approaches to adapt to changing conditions, and develop strong relationships across differences to produce results. Focusing on inclusive leadership, she also serves as a Mentor Coach with the Coach Diversity Institute (CDI).

Often referred to as a trusted confidante, Kate leverages her breadth of experience across business, policy, and law to provide valuable perspective to reframe issues and focus on effective problem-solving.

A cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School and Princeton University, Kate began her career at a prominent global law firm and in government and shifted to work in management consulting for over a decade before becoming a leadership coach and facilitator. She is a PROSCI Certified Change Management Professional (CMP), Certified Professional Diversity Coach (CDC), a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP), a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coach Federation (ICF) and New Ventures West, and trained as a facilitator at Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership (ITL).

Coaching Clientele

I work with attorneys and other experienced professionals, including policy experts, management consultants, and business executives at critical points in their career development, whether looking to make a career move, navigate challenging situations, or build capacity to advance.

Coaching Process

Engagements are tailored to each individual client depending on their goals and experience. Our work typically ranges from 5-12 sessions and includes assessment exercises, targeted resources, practices, and templates. There is “homework” to be completed in between meetings.

Expectations & Benefits

To get the most benefit from coaching, clients will be open to change to becoming increasingly self-aware. They can get the most benefit by verifying their assumptions and exploring possibilities outside their comfort zone.

Background Information on Clients

Depending on each client’s goals, I can conduct a full 360 review, gather feedback through a less formal process, or keep our work entirely confidential.

Case Studies

  • I coached a young partner who had recently brought in two big cases to his firm, leading to a promotion but also resulting in substantial new challenges, which he felt were becoming overwhelming. We worked together on:
    • “Managing up” to establish boundaries with senior partners who were not accustomed to him taking charge;
    • Leading productive meetings with executive presence;
    • Giving constructive guidance to junior partners, who had recently been his peers, in working on his matters;
    • Developing time and stress management strategies, and
    • Delegating clearly and effectively.

As a result, he handled both cases with rave reviews from the clients and gained respect within the firm. The experience made him feel more confident in his abilities and capable of managing challenges as he moves forward in his career.

  • I worked with an attorney who had recently gone in-house from a firm who had not anticipated the extent of the changes in her working relationship with the client nor how the legal office was viewed within the company. We worked together so that she was able to:
    • Speak up with more authority and relevance in meetings;
    • Develop relationships with business division heads and managers;
    • Articulate the value-add of bringing her in at the beginning of strategy sessions and making business decisions; and
    • Manage the demands on her time and prioritize effectively.

Instead of leaving the position after a short time, she developed skills to become a more integral part of the organization and grew to enjoy the work, feeling more satisfied in her life as a whole.

The single most important factor that leads to a successful coaching relationship

Commitment to candor and to making a change.
