Background & Certifications

After graduating from Rutgers College and Tulane Law School, I was a litigator with a NJ based firm. I then transitioned into recruiting with a boutique search firm in NYC that focused on in-house placements. In 2004, I founded Grayson Allen, an attorney search and career consulting firm. While recruiting was my initial focus, I have always loved helping attorneys put their best foot forward and figure out “what’s next” in their careers. As more companies and firms turned to internal recruiters and submissions became more automated, I expanded my services to include career consulting to help more people intelligently navigate the job search process.

Coaching Clientele

90% attorneys, 10% individuals in other business related areas. I have assisted attorneys and other professionals at all levels including students, associates, in-house counsel, partners and general counsels. Clients have worked in all practice areas and at firms and companies of every size.

Coaching Process

We begin with a discussion about experience, strengths, interests and objectives and then structure a strategic plan to accomplish the career transition goals. I provide support throughout the process as well as honest analysis and feedback at every stage. Additional areas of focus include resume and LinkedIn review, networking and job search strategies, interview preparation and post-interview debriefing, and compensation negotiations. The number of sessions is flexible and is determined by the specific needs of the client.

Expectations & Benefits

I expect my clients to be open-minded about opportunities and to fully participate in the process.

Case Studies

Client 1 wanted to transition from being a litigator at a solo family practice to a compliance role in financial services. We structured a weekly plan of action that resulted in her focusing on anti-money laundering compliance and achieving her goal.

Client 2 was downsized from a senior level role. He requested that his company pay for my services. I provided advice and feedback throughout his job search, including when he looked at opportunities through recruiters. This gave him confidence that he had unfiltered support as he navigated the process and chose his next position.

The single most important factor that leads to a successful coaching relationship

Commitment to the time and effort it takes to do the work necessary to be successful.
